Justin Lofton Martinsville RACE REPORT: LOFTON BATTLES MARTINSVILLE RUNNING IN THE TOP 10, BUT CUTS TIRE ON FINAL LAP TO FINISH 19TH
No. 6 Weekend Warriors Productions / Lofton Cattle Chevrolet News and Notes
> DENVER, N.C. (October 28, 2012) - With Martinsville (Va.) Speedway known for its short-track shenanigans and the wild bumping and banging style of racing, Justin Lofton and the No. 6 Weekends Warriors Productions / Lofton Cattle Chevrolet battled inside the top 10 for most of the afternoon on Saturday; however, with just three laps to go, Lofton suffered a punctured left rear tire. Fighting to hold on to the truck, Lofton spun on lap 199, but managed to hobble across the finish line to end the day on the lead lap and in the 19th position.
Qualifying in the 14th position on the 0.526-mile oval, Lofton battled, beat and banged against the other NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) drivers. By the third caution on lap 92, Lofton had worked his way to the 10th position. As the leaders all pitted on Lap 95, the No. 6 crew gave Lofton four tires and fuel. The championship contender then set his sights on the remaining nine trucks between himself and the lead position.
As the race restarted on lap 98, Lofton began picking off the competition one-by-one, and by lap 102 he was scored in the seventh spot. On lap 150, the caution flag flew and Lofton pitted for just two left-side tires and fuel. The gamble paid off, putting Lofton in the fifth position on the lap 159 restart.
As the final caution waved on lap 186, Lofton was in the ninth position. The field restarted with just seven laps to go, and Lofton found himself in the seventh position. On lap 197, Lofton radioed to his No. 6 Weekend Warriors Productions / Lofton Cattle team that the truck felt like he had a left rear tire going down. Lofton was able to fight the ill-handling truck around the track for two laps, but on the white-flag lap, Lofton could no longer race on only three properly inflated tires, and the truck spun in turn two. Lofton turned his truck around to finish his day on the lead lap and in the 19th position.
"I felt like I was passing everybody on the track," said Lofton. "Our Weekend Warriors Productions / Lofton Cattle Chevrolet was running so strong and the truck was really turning well. I thought that the team did all that they could to put me where I needed to be, and when we gambled on the two left-side tire stop, I thought that we had a great chance for a strong finish."
The NCWTS will take on the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012. Live coverage of the WinStar World Casino 350 will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET on SPEED, MRN Radio and SiriusXM Satellite NASCAR, Channel 90. > NOTES:
There were no incidents involving the No. 6, No. 8 or No. 33 entry during the final practice session.
Justin Lofton and the No. 6 Weekend Warriors Productions / Lofton Cattle Chevrolet team spent this afternoon's practice session fine-tuning the handling of their pink Silverado. As the session progressed, the team got their truck turning just they way they needed, but were still searching for more speed in the center of the turn. With the session coming to an end, the group attempted to make a mock qualifying run, but traffic on the 0.526-mile short track interfered with their effort and left Lofton 22nd on the speed chart.

From the Driver's Seat: Justin Lofton Quotes...
On racing at Martinsville Speedway: "Well, after two weeks off and a not so good race in the California desert, I'm looking forward to getting back to Martinsville. It's [Martinsville Speedway] a track that we ran well at back in the spring. We ran third all day, and ended up fourth. So, I hope to at least duplicate that result. I'm coming back with a great short-track truck that the guys at the shop have been working hard on all month. So, I am excited to get back to some NASCAR truck racing."
On getting towards the end of the season: "This time of year is never easy for me. I love racing, so it always feels like the end of summer to me. If I had it my way we'd race year around. I had hoped by this stage of the schedule we'd be a little higher in points, but don't count me out. I'm still running for a championship and I'm planning to give it it 110% percent for the rest of the season."

Eddie Troconis Quotes...
On racing at Martinsville Speedway: "We have had some really good trucks lately, but we have had some bad luck. The entire team is excited to get back to racing and to go back to the short track at Martinsville. We raced very well there this past spring and we have all the faith in the world in our driver." |
