Cale Gale Kentucky RACE REPORT
No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet Silverado News and Notes
> CALE GALE SCORES A TOP-20 FINISH IN KENTUCKY
Cale Gale and the No. 33 Rheem team secured a top-20 finish after fighting back from a broken radiator with less than 50 laps to go. Gale was racing inside the top 10 when a piece of debris punctured the radiator and forced Gale to pull behind the wall for repairs. The team replaced the radiator in less than 10 minutes and got Gale back on track to finish 19th in the Kentucky 201 at Kentucky Speedway.
Gale rolled off fourth in the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet after posting a 30.799-second lap during his qualifying attempt. With weather expected, teams in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) were challenged with determining their strategy for the night. At first, many teams focused their strategy on getting to the halfway point of the race, but as the rain on the radar continued to dissipate pit strategies continued to change.
The Rheem Chevrolet was slightly tight at the start of the race, but knowing the track would loosen up as the night unfolded the team never made a chassis adjustment. Gale visited pit road for the first time during the lap 22 caution for a fuel-only pit stop. Racing inside the top 10, Gale had solid restarts all night and picked up positions to race inside the top five.
With only two sets of stickers tires available to each team for the 134-lap race, Jerry Baxter and the Rheem team also needed to consider tire wear in their strategy. Gale took his first set of tires during the lap 47 caution, and came back down pit road for his final set during the lap 81 caution.
While stopped on pit road during the lap 81 caution, the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet lost fluid leaving a puddle of water. Conversation among the crew immediately began to diagnose the problem. Without water pressure in Gale's machine, the Rheem team ran to the garage and prepared to change the radiator. Gale was set to restart the Kentucky 201 in the ninth position on lap 84, but instead followed the pace car down pit road and into the garage. A piece of debris punctured the radiator forcing the team to replace the part. The repair took the Rheem team less than 10 minutes and Gale returned to the track after missing just 19 laps.
Gale continued to log laps to pick up positions. By the time the checkered flag fell, Gale was scored in the 19th position.
"I'm really proud of my Rheem team today," commented Gale. "We didn't get the finish that we had hoped for, but the guys did a great job building my truck and adjusting it all weekend. I feel like we're getting better each and every week as a team. Our truck was really fast tonight, so we decided that we're going to take this one to Las Vegas next week. I'm excited to see what we're able to do with our Rheem Chevrolet on that mile-and-a-half track."
The NCWTS will take on Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Friday, September 29th. Live coverage of the Smith's 350 will begin at 8:00 p.m. ET on SPEED, MRN Radio and Sirius XM NASCAR Radio, channel 90. Cale Gale Kentucky Practice Reports
No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet Silverado News and Notes
> There were no incidents involving the No. 6, 8, or 33 entries during either practice session.
Cale Gale and the No. 33 Rheem team spent today's back-to-back practice sessions working hard to make their truck travel over the bumps and maintain the handling while preparing for tonight's race. The team worked through a variety of shock, spring and sway bar changes to ensure that the Rheem Chevrolet would travel well over the bumps on the 1.5-mile Kentucky Speedway. In the final 10 minutes of practice, the Rheem team cooled down their Chevrolet and sent Gale out to make a mock qualifying run. The attempt moved Gale temporarily to the top of the board. As the session continued and other drivers continued to make qualifying runs, Gale fell back to fourth on the board.

Cale Gale Kentucky Speedway Event Preview
No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet Silverado News and Notes
> Third time's the charm at Kentucky... Cale Gale will make his third NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) start at Kentucky Speedway this weekend. In their last visit to the 1.5-mile track, Gale and the No. 33 Rheem team had a fast Chevrolet and a strong run going, but a late-race accident resulted in a 25th-place finish for the Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender. Gale raced inside the top 15 throughout the opening 100 laps and the Rheem team utilized every opportunity they had to refine the setup of their truck. With the Rheem Chevrolet handling well and headed for the top 10, Gale was involved in an on-track incident on lap 109 when another competitor got loose in the inside groove and drifted up the track making contact with Gale's Rheem Chevrolet. The No. 33 machine suffered moderate damage and the Rheem team made several pit stops throughout the final 40 laps to make additional repairs and adjustments. With the dedication and hard work of his team, Gale was able to continue in the event and cross the finish line in the 25th position.
> Career-best NCWTS finish tied at Iowa... Gale's fifth-place finish at Iowa Speedway on Saturday night tied his career-best NCWTS finish. Gale rolled off sixth in the American Ethanol 200 and averaged an 8.135-running position. With excellent pit strategy, Gale moved into the top five during the final laps and raced as high as the second position. The finish was Gale's second top-five result in the 2012 season and tied his career-best finish (fifth) recorded at Dover (Del.) International Speedway this past June.
> Meet Cale Gale... Gale will participate in the NCWTS autograph session on Friday afternoon at Kentucky Speedway. Fans are invited to the concourse area at 3 p.m. ET on Friday afternoon to meet Gale and his Eddie Sharp Racing (ESR) teammates Justin Lofton and Max Gresham, as well as the rest of the stars from the truck series for autographs and photos.
> Battling for Points... With just seven races remaining in the 2012 NCWTS season, Gale is currently ranked inside the top 15 of both the championship driver and owner point standings. Gale, who has scored four top-10 finishes this season, is ranked 13th in driver points and 15th in owner points. Currently second in the Rookie of the Year points, Gale is chasing down leader Ty Dillon.

From the Driver's Seat: Cale Gale Quotes...
On racing in Kentucky: "I'm really looking forward to getting back to Kentucky this weekend. We had a really strong truck there earlier this summer and I think we'll have another good run. We were disappointed with our finish in June after running so well all weekend; the Rheem team is definitely looking for redemption this trip."
On building momentum with the Rheem team: "I feel like our Rheem team has really improved this season. It took some time for me to get accustomed to the truck and familiar with the team, but I feel like we've made good strides. The nice thing about this part of the season is that we have two stretches of back-to-back races, which helps us build momentum. We had a good run at Iowa last week, and we hope to back that up again this weekend in Kentucky. Over the next few weeks, we have more races coming up on tracks where I'm really comfortable racing. I'm looking forward to finishing out the season strong in the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet." |

From the Pit Box:
Crew Chief
Jerry Baxter Quotes...
On getting ready to race at Kentucky Speedway: "We're taking chassis No. 045 to Kentucky Speedway this weekend for the Rheem team. It's the same chassis that we raced in Iowa earlier this season, but it has a brand new body. We went to the wind tunnel the other week and it seemed to do really well. The Rheem team had a strong truck at Kentucky when we were there a couple months ago, and I believe we learned a lot that will transfer over to this weekend's race. We're looking forward to it." |
