Cale Gale IOWA RACE REPORT
TEAM RACKS UP SECOND TOP-5 OF THE SEASON
No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet Silverado News and Notes
> Cale Gale and the No. 33 Rheem team tied their season-best finish, fifth, in the American Ethanol 200 presented by Hy-Vee this Saturday at Iowa Speedway. With a quick truck all weekend, Gale practiced sixth in both practice sessions and qualified sixth for the 200-lap event. The Rheem team focused on the setup of their Chevrolet, knowing that changing track conditions would likely leave many competitors chasing the track throughout the 175-mile event. With an excellent pit strategy, crew chief Jerry Baxter and the Rheem team put Gale in a position to be running inside the top five during the final laps and helped enable to Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender to tie his career-best NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) finish.
With only two sets of sticker tires and 200-scheduled laps at a track where lap times fall off as tires wear down, the Rheem team utilized pit strategy to help dictate the pace of their race. At the start of the event, the Rheem Chevrolet was just a little tight through the center on both ends of the race track, but as the sun set the track started to come around to the 33 team. With no adjustments needed, the Rheem team was able to focus on tire-wear and fuel to determine when they needed to pit. Gale stayed on track during the opening caution period on lap 24, but opted to pit for fuel-only as they neared half-way in their fuel run during the lap 36 caution period.
As several competitors took tires during the lap 36 and 55 caution periods, Gale fell back to the 10th position while running on old tires. The Rheem team came down pit road on lap 71 for his first set of sticker tires, some 20 to 40 laps after most of their competition. The move pushed Gale's No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet back to 20th in the running order, but gave him the grip that he needed to battle his way back through the field with fresh tires.
With the field spread out on their pit sequence, Gale was able to outlast many of his competitors as they began pitting under green. The Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender raced as high as the third position before coming down pit road on lap 164. The intensity heated up when the caution flag was displayed as Gale pulled on to pit road. Still in front of the leader when the caution came out, Gale was able to continue driving through the pits to remain on the lead lap. The Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender returned to pit road the next lap for four fresh tires and fuel and restarted the American Ethanol 200 in the third position.
With three restarts in the final twenty laps, Gale battled the competition for his position inside the top five. Restarting the race on lap 174, Gale dove to the inside in turn two to take over the second position and chase down the leader. Just five laps later the caution flag was displayed again and Gale restarted the race on the bottom in the second position. Gale drove the Rheem Chevrolet hard into turn one and lost some ground while running in the middle of a three-wide pack in turn two. In a close battle for the top six positions, Gale was able to cross the finish line in the fifth position.
"I had a lot of fun tonight," commented Gale following the race. "The Rheem team built me a really good Chevy Silverado and had great pit stops all night. Jerry [Baxter, crew chief] and all the guys did a great job improving on our Rheem Chevrolet all weekend. I can't thank everyone enough-my team for their hard work, Eddie Sharp for giving me this opportunity, or Rheem for their support. I had a lot of fun tonight. I can't wait to get to Kentucky next week."

> There were no incidents involving the No. 6 or No. 33 entry during the first practice session.
Cale Gale and the No. 33 Rheem team spent final practice working through a variety of setup options to ensure that their Chevrolet could navigate through the corners in tonight's American Ethanol 200. By the end of the session, the Rheem team discovered a setup option that allowed their truck to turn well through entry and the middle, while still being a touch snug on exit. Cale and the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet are scheduled to go out 29th in today's qualifying session.

Cale Gale First Practice Report
No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet Silverado News and Notes
> There were no incidents involving the No. 6 or No. 33 entry during the first practice session.
Cale Gale and the No. 33 Rheem team were among the first competitors to get on the track at Iowa Speedway. The team started with their setup similar to how they finished July's race at the midwest track. With Gale happy with his truck, the Rheem team spent the session fine-tuning the handling of their Chevrolet and searching for adjustments to gain additional speed. After trying a variety of shock and spring changes, the team found a setup they liked and got ready for a mock qualifying run. Nearing the end of practice, Gale posted a 23.432-second lap to record the sixth-quickest lap of the session.
> QUOTES:
Cale Gale, No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet: "Our Rheem Chevrolet handled really well right off the hauler. I spent a lot of time trying to work on my line--it seemed like we could go from being a little bit tight to a little bit loose just in which line I used. The guys worked hard tonight and I feel like we're in a good position going into final practice tomorrow. It should be a lot of fun."

Cale Gale First Practice Report
No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet Silverado News and Notes
> Second Chance at Iowa... Cale Gale and the No. 33 Rheem team had a fast Chevrolet and a strong run during their last trip to Iowa Speedway, but late-race contact resulted in a 26th-place finish for the Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender. After practicing inside the top 10 and qualifying sixth, Gale maintained his position near the front of the field. Gale was racing in the seventh position on lap 182 when he and another competitor made contact as a result of tight racing coming off a restart. The incident ended the night for both drivers as they emerged from their cockpits. After spending the entire race in the top 12, Gale was credited with a 26th-place finish in the American Ethanol 200 at Iowa Speedway.
> Sweet Home Alabama... Gale joined Eddie Sharp Racing (ESR) teammate Justin Lofton in Birmingham, Ala. on Friday afternoon to promote next month's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. The teammates helped kick off the college football season with a tailgate party at WJOX-FM where they greeted fans and handed out free tickets before going to visit the third-grade students at Moody Elementary School. The duo wrapped up their day at a private meet and greet with breast cancer survivors at America's First Federal Credit Union in Trussville, Ala. The drivers surprised three lucky ladies with autographs and free tickets to the fred's 250 at Talladega Superspeedway. After the event in Birmingham, Gale traveled to his hometown of Mobile, Ala. to join Rick Crawford and the staff at Mobile International Speedway as they announced their plans for 2013. As the defending winner of the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) Racing Series' Mobile ARCA 200, the driver of the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet was available for interviews during a press conference to announce the ARCA Racing Series' return to Mobile on March 9, 2013.

Currently second in the Rookie of the Year points, Gale is chasing down leader Ty Dillon.

From the Driver's Seat: Cale Gale Quotes...
On getting back to Iowa: "I'm really looking forward to getting back to Iowa Speedway with the Rheem Chevrolet this weekend. I enjoy the track and the style of racing there. It's like a big Richmond-small enough where you use a lot of brake, but big enough that you still carry momentum through the corners. We had a strong Rheem Chevrolet during our last trip to Iowa in July; we were good in practice and qualifying and were able to race inside the top 10 most of the night. Hopefully this time we'll be able to stay out of trouble and bring home a solid finish. Jerry [Baxter, crew chief] and all the guys have been working hard to make sure that we finish out the season strong. I can't thank my team at Eddie Sharp Racing or my sponsor Rheem enough for standing behind me all year. To be able to race a full season in the NCWTS has been a dream come true." |

Jerry Baxter Quotes...
On getting ready to race at Iowa Speedway: "We're very excited to get back to Iowa Speedway with the Rheem Chevrolet this weekend. We ran well in July, and plan to unload with our truck pretty similar to how we finished the last race. The whole Rheem team has a lot of confidence going into the race this weekend; we know that we can run well at Iowa. Hopefully we can stay out of trouble and keep up the momentum going into our first four-race stretch of the season." |
