Cale Gale Bristol RACE REPORT
CALE GALE'S NIGHT CUT SHORT AFTER EARNING FIRST CAREER POLE AT BRISTOL

No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet Silverado News and Notes

> Cale Gale and the No. 33 Rheem team had a day full of ups and downs on Wednesday at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway ("World's Fastest Half-Mile"). The Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender nabbed his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) pole to lead the field to the green, but finished the race with a trip to the infield care center after making hard contact with the inside wall with just seven laps remaining.

With a fast truck, Gale paced most of the opening practice session and posted speeds inside the top 10 throughout final practice on Wednesday afternoon. A few hours later, Gale strapped in the truck and ran a 15.656-second lap-his quickest of the day-to secure the pole position at the World's Fastest Half-Mile.

Wednesday's NCWTS event was the debut of a new track configuration at Bristol Motor Speedway where the upper groove was removed. As a result, passing became more challenging than it had been in years past. Gale decided to lead the field to the green from the outside line, but when the No. 17 truck got a good jump off the start, Gale quickly settled into the second position.

A long green-flag run kicked off the UNOH 200 and there was little movement inside the top-five competitors throughout the opening 80 laps. A caution on lap 82 finally gave the field a chance to mix it up. Well inside their fuel window to make it the distance, everyone came down pit road. Gale called into the crew to report that his truck was a little snug when he was racing by himself, but got a little loose when racing around other competitors. Still overall pleased with the handling of the Rheem Chevrolet, the team opted to service Gale's truck with four tires, fuel and no adjustments before sending him back on the track.

As the laps wound down, tempers started to heat up and cautions became more and more frequent. Gale was involved in an incident on lap 161 as a result of hard side-by-side racing, but was able to drive away with just minor damage to the rear bumper of the Rheem Chevrolet. Gale stayed in the hunt racing inside the top five before briefly dropping to the sixth position on the lap 170 restart.

With just seven laps to go, the No. 29 of Brad Keselowski sputtered on fuel in front of the field while running second. Gale, who was running sixth, checked up to avoid contact with the truck in front of him, but got turned by the truck behind him. The contact sent Gale hard into the inside wall and resulted in terminal damage to the right side of the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet. Gale climbed out of his Chevrolet and took the short ambulance ride to the infield care center. Within minutes, Gale was released from the care center and credited with a 28th-place finish in the UNOH 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

"Today was a wild day," commented Gale. "I'm so proud of my Rheem team for all their hard work and getting the pole this afternoon; but I'm so disappointed in how everything ended tonight. We've had such great trucks from Eddie Sharp Racing all season, but it just seems like we haven't had any luck. I can't thank Jerry [Baxter, crew chief] and the guys enough for all their hard work and standing by me all season; we had a strong truck tonight and we were definitely coming for a top-five finish. I feel like our team has really bonded and that we're on the right track; hopefully we'll be able to carry the momentum of the pole award and strong run into the race at Atlanta next week."

The NCWTS will take on Atlanta Motor Speedway on Friday, August 31st. Cale Gale Bristol FIRST PRACTICE Notes

No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet Silverado News and Notes

> NOTES:
There were no incidents involving the No. 6 or No. 33 entry during the opening practice session.

Cale Gale and the No. 33 Rheem team unloaded strong at Bristol Motor Speedway. Gale went straight to the top of the board on his first practice run and maintained his position there throughout the majority of the practice session. A little tight when the session first started, the Rheem team worked through a variety of shock options to decide which ones would allow Gale to travel through the corners the best. By the end of the session, the team found an adjustment that made them just a tick loose, but would allow Gale to move up the track and build in room at adjust their Chevrolet throughout the race.

> QUOTES:
Cale Gale, No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet: "I'm really happy to finally be on-track at Bristol. This is one my favorite tracks, and I've been looking forward to this race all season. Our Rheem Chevrolet unloaded fast and we were at the top of the board throughout most of the session. After working on fine-tuning the handling of our Chevrolet, I feel like we're in a really good position going into final practice. The Rheem team is working hard and our Silverado is really good--it can carry a lot of speed through the corners and has good drive off. I'm looking forward to getting back out there this afternoon."

No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet Silverado News and Notes

> Back at Bristol... Cale Gale will return to Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway ("World's Fastest Half-Mile") for the third time in his career on Wednesday, August 22. The Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender has made one NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) and one NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start at the World's Fastest Half-Mile previously in his career. With each race resulting in a top-10 finish, Gale has completed every lap he attempted at the fast track with an average start of eighth, and an average finish of 6.5. In his most recent event at Bristol Motor Speedway, Gale sat on the pole and drove to a fourth-place finish in the August 2008 NNS race.

> Spending Time with Students in the Tri-Cities Area... Gale made a special trip to the tri-cities area last Wednesday, August 15, to help promote the upcoming race at Bristol Motor Speedway. The Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender stopped at two elementary schools to talk to students about staying in school, working hard and staying safe while doing things like riding a bike. Gale was joined by Daytona NCWTS winner John King on visits to Weber City Elementary School in Weber City, Va. and Lake Ridge Elementary School in Johnson City, Tenn. Between the two schools, Gale spoke to approximately 600 students in an effort to spread awareness that kids 15 and under are free for the UNOH 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

> Battling for Points... With just 10 races remaining in the 2012 NCWTS' season, Gale is currently ranked inside the top-15 of both the championship driver and owner point standings. Gale, who has scored three top-10 finishes this season, is ranked 13th in driver points and 15th in owner points. Currently second in the Rookie of the Year points, Gale is chasing down leader Ty Dillon.

From the Driver's Seat: Cale Gale Quotes...

On how to get around Bristol: "It's all about manhandling the truck at Bristol. It's a fast track where you use very little brake. We need to really focus on the handling of the Rheem Chevrolet and get that right; it isn't about aerodynamics or running around flat-footed at that track. You have to play with the throttle coming up off the corner to find grip. This year's race will be interesting with the new track configuration. I think it will take away the ability to run against the wall-at least for this race-but I still think that we'll see two grooves of racing. With only two grooves, I think there will be a lot more beating and banging, which is what the fans said they wanted to see. It should be a really exciting race; I'm looking forward to being a part of it with the Rheem Chevrolet."

On looking forward to Bristol Motor Speedway: "Bristol Motor Speedway is one of my favorite tracks on the NASCAR circuit; it's a fast, high-banked half-mile, just like the tracks I grew up racing. There are very few short tracks left on the schedule, and coming from a short-track background I always look forward to races like Bristol and Martinsville with the Rheem Chevrolet. Bristol [Motor Speedway] really fits my driving style-it's where I have my best NASCAR finish and my only pole award. We've had a couple races where we've been close with the Rheem Chevrolet, and I feel like this is a track where we really have the potential to have a good night, compete up front and even race for the win. I'm really looking forward to Wednesday night."

On watching the action from Bristol as a kid: "Bristol was always my favorite track growing up. I never missed watching that race-if my dad or I were racing that night we made sure that we had a TV to keep up with the action at Bristol. It's a really exciting place to race; I can't wait to get back out there with the Rheem Chevrolet."

From the Pit Box: Crew Chief Jerry Baxter Quotes...

On getting ready to race at Bristol Motor Speedway: "The entire Rheem team is really looking forward to the race at Bristol Motor Speedway. It's a track where Cale has always run well, and I've always had good runs there as a crew chief too. We feel like we have a good opportunity to capitalize on our strengths and have a strong run this week. We're taking chassis No. 46; it's the same truck that we ran at Rockingham and Pocono. The biggest unknown going into this weekend is simply the track-it's a new track. Cale had a media event in Bristol last week and was able to get inside to take a look at the surface and communicate to us what it looked like. It will be interesting to see how the race unfolds."
